Practiced
therapeutically, Ayurvedic Yoga corrects doshic imbalances. For
example, elevated Vata requires asanas that build stability, strength,
and focus. Excessive Pitta benefits from cooling and relaxing asansas.
And Kapha decreases with active, heating, and diverse asana practices.
In addition to asana, Ayurvedic Yoga incorporates pranayama, mantra
and meditation, drawn from the Yoga-Sutra compiled by Indian sage,
Patanjali.
While
Yoga is a distinct Vedic science of philosophy and healing, it is
classically linked to Ayurveda. Therefore, performing Yoga without
an Ayurvedic understanding often leads to asana practices that create
and worsen imbalances. Ayurvedic Yoga, properly performed, catalyzes
and maintains balance. When twinned with Ayurvedic Nutrition, doshic
balance and rejevenation accelerates and is more easily sustained. |
